The overall mission of Communities in Schools is to connect community resources with schools to help young people learn, stay in school, and successfully prepare for life. Communities In Schools of Baytown joined the CIS network in 1993 and serves a variety of campuses.

For 18 years, I have worked with students and their families in Goose Creek CISD.  I have had the pleasure of being the Program Coordinator for Communities In Schools–Baytown and Supervising Coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

My dedication to the city of Baytown, and the surrounding areas, is reflected in my commitment to make positive change for students of all ages in my community.  I have had the privilege to be part of the wonderful accomplishments of CIS of Baytown and I have witnessed the growth and change that happens to students and their families through education and through the support services our organization provides.

I believe in the mission of Communities In Schools-Baytown and I have confidence in this organization’s ability to inspire students to achieve through education.

Yet, I know that there still is much more for us to do. Approximately 40 percent of students in the freshman class will not graduate in four years. Statistics show that high school dropouts are six times more likely to be incarcerated and account for 2/3 of all inmates in the Texas prison system. Dropouts lose approximately $366,000 in life time earning potential and are three times more likely to live in poverty. Seventy-five percent of dropouts will more likely be unemployed.

The CIS-Baytown staff is committed to offering quality service to help students and their families overcome obstacles that might hinder academic success. Little is accomplished without the assistance from members of the Baytown community. Communities In Schools of Baytown is renewing its commitment to strengthen our relationship with citizens, businesses and agencies in our community. With your help and with the support of our community partners, Communities In Schools Baytown can continue to empower students to achieve in school and in life.
