G.I.R.L.S and BOYS Clubs
Mentor Services

The G.I.R.L.S Club and BOYS Club are for students ages 10-12. This program requires mentors to play an integral part in the execution of the curriculum. We are looking for both male and female mentors. If you or anyone you know may be interested in volunteering for these programs, please contact Jennifer Ferguson with the Baytown YMCA at JenniferF@ymcahouston.org, 281-427-1797 or Tracy Kruger with CIS-Baytown at Tkruger@gccisd.net, 281-425-3314.

The time commitment would be 1 1/2-2 hours 2-4 times a month in the after school hours. Jennifer Ferguson will be present to coordinate the program. If you or someone you know are interested, we would be happy to visit with you and discuss the program details at length. Qualifications for mentors are as follows:

For the G.I.R.L.S. Club:
* Be female
* Be willing to submit to a background check
* Be willing to participate in discussion groups as well as individual or group initiatives with young girls
* Be willing to develop positive relationships as a mentor
* Be willing to step in when needed, every session is scripted and clear about mentor participation (it is highly interactive)
* Be willing to share your experience as a woman
* Be able to commit to attending all sessions (we know things occasionally come up)
* Be available and willing to attend at least one session of mentor training

For the BOYS Club:
* Be male
* Be willing to submit to a background check
* Be willing to participate in discussion groups as well as individual or group initiatives with young boys
* Be willing to develop positive relationships as a mentor
* Be willing to step in when needed, every session is scripted and clear about mentor participation (it is highly interactive)
* Be willing to share your experience as a man
* Be able to commit to attending all sessions (we know things occasionally come up)
* Be available and willing to attend at least one session of mentor training

We need a minimum of 3 volunteers for each program. Please consider volunteering or talking to your friends and family about this opportunity. Without volunteer mentors we will not be able to launch these programs. We look forward to hearing from you.
